Data Protection / Backup (CommVault) Systems Engineer

Brief SynopsisSBC Innovations is seeking talent for a broadly experienced CommVault Backup Systems Engineer with extensive knowledge and experience in designing, developing, configuring, implementing, testing, troubleshooting, deploying, and supporting backup and recovery technical solutions for a large-scale federal government enterprise’s environment.


Background/Task Description and Scope:

The Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) is responsible for providing administrative, technical, and legal support to all 94 United States Attorney districts located in over 200 geographically dispersed sites throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Guam, the Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each of the districts and EOUSA contain one or more offices that vary in size from 2 to 800 users. Within each district, one site is designated the District Headquarters (HQ) site and the remaining sites are designated Branch (BR) offices. The Enterprise End User Technologies (EEUT) division of the EOUSA utilizes the General Integration (GI) technical team to provide information technology technical solutions support with systems and network engineering, project coordination, scheduling, backup/recovery, storage, technical writing/editing, and Tier 3 level support following a defined system development lifecycle (SDLC), along with ITIL, PMI, and CMMI-based requirements, change, project, and release management processes and procedures.
The scope of this work shall include engineering (designing, developing, testing, & implementing) CommVault backup/recovery solutions. Additionally, the candidate will create system architecture, design, implementation, and operations documentation as well as provide Tier 3 level backup/recovery support of a large-scale enterprise federal government enterprise supporting nearly 20,000 users.


Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Designed, developed, configured, integrated, and secured complex backup, recovery, and storage products over wide area network (WAN) in a multi-enterprise, complex, geographically dispersed solution, ranging from single servers to multi-tier, multi-platform solutions utilizing the Commvault enterprise backup solutions.
  • Created and maintained optimal backup, restore and redundancy solutions for critical data. Reviews, plans, and participates in executing regularly scheduled maintenances on the storage infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot complex backup and recovery problems to include networking, application, hardware, and appliance related backup issues.
  • Provide analytics, usage, capacity planning and reporting within the Commvault and Networker management and monitoring solution.
  • Implements regular security updates and patches to related backup application servers and appliances in accordance with Federal Information and Information Systems requirements.
  • Works with operation teams to develop and support enterprise infrastructure processes, tools, and environments to ensure a timely response to backup, restore, and data replication requests.
  • Possesses a strong knowledge of Commvault data protection application.
  • Knowledge of other technologies a plus (LAN, WAN, Microsoft Windows Servers, Linux, SQL database).
  • Experience with DISA STIGs and applying to Commvault related systems.
  • Performs security related tasks which include documentation, vulnerability scan review, assessment support, patch management, and auditing as required.
  • Bachelors in computer science, business, or other relevant discipline. Eight (8) years of relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

Preferred and/or Supplemental Qualifications/Experience:

  • CommVault Certified Professional
  • CommVault Certified Specialist – Disaster Recovery
  • EMC Unity, PURE Storage, Cloud storage

Security Clearance : Due to the nature of this customer, the position will require either already possessing a government security clearance or the ability to obtain one. A current / active Secret or Top-Secret clearance is desired.


Period Of Performance – Immediate Hire


Work Schedule Requirements:

  • Hybrid work schedule – currently two days onsite per two-week pay period
  • 8-hour work shift spanning the business hours of 7:00am to 6:00pm with a minimum 30-minute lunch per OSHA regulation.
  • Government holidays/closings excluded.
